![]() ![]() By about 7pm, when I put on the decals, the remaining mixed paint was finally gelling up and unusable. The mixed paint was still liquid at 5pm when I checked (though the calipers were dry to the touch, just!). Finished painting about 4pm (with breaks in between coats, watching the world cup soccer). I started painting (after prep) about noon, ~80 degrees. The paint is nasty and doesn't clean up with alcohol, orange hand cleaner, goo-gone, etc - even when wet! Get and use vinyl gloves - they don't come in the kit. Each time running round each caliper in the same order so that the first had more time to set a bit before I got to it again. A second (not so complete) coat on the big areas, waited 30mins (or so), then a couple of touch-up coats. I used one full coat, waited 30 mins (or so). You will need at least two coats of paint otherwise you'll get an uneven finish, and/or the caliper moldings/edges will poke thru the first coat. As part of the prep, wire brush or sand the flat and exposed surfaces to give a key for the paint. Much easier to spend time at the prep stage than trying to paint around edges by hand. Otherwise the multiple coats of paint you'll need on each will take too long and be too much trouble. Put your car on jacks all round, take all 4 wheels off and do all calipers at once. They supply just one brush in the kit - it's one of those cheap rolled-metal-tube brushes you can buy in packs - and more is merrier. ![]() Get more brushes! Turns out the painted on stuff sets more quickly than that in the mix container, so I was able to do two full coats, and then finish touch ups all round with the original mix. I originally thought I'd mix and use half (this is a two-part paint) and then let that dry/set, then mix up the rest as a second coat. I mixed it in an empty ( WELL cleaned) margarine tub. I mixed and used just half the can and yet still had plenty of the mixed paint left over (I estimate I used maybe a 1/4 in the end). Other tips, for those of you using G2 paint: Also available in the POR-15 Caliper Painting Kit. It may be that the brush marks would have merged/flowed out, but I didn't want to chance it This heat-resistant caliper paint has excellent coverage properties, 5 brilliant ceramic-like colors, and withstands temperatures up to 350☏. To avoid any possibility of brush marks, I ended up lightly 'stippling' the final coat using the end/tip of the brush. UPDATE: For anyone else wondering about this, I finally got around to doing mine in gold. ![]()
